Halloween

The kids both picked out their own pumpkins this year.
Logan was not into getting yucky. He put one hand in then wanted to wash it. Robert and I did most of his.
Mackenzie was not squeamish at all. She dug right in.
Logan finally got brave, after we gave him a scooper.


We saved the pumpkin seeds, the kids really seem to enjoy them.
We let Mackenzie draw the eyes and nose, I drew the mouth. Logan told Robert what shapes he wanted.
Mackenzie dressed as Rapunzel this year and Logan as Spiderman. Mackenzie just had to have the hair. I found a wig, braided it, and added some flowers.



They had so much fun. After every house they would show use the candy that they got. Logan keep asking if this was Halloween night. Mackenzie was much faster and braver than last year.

Mackenzie is already planning what to wear next year :)

Thanksgiving

This year I had two little helpers for Thanksgiving. We watched Snoopy, Spiderman and Santa in the parade. They helped me make pie.

Then they had a yummy Thanksgiving day lunch followed by naps.

For dinner they ate turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, carrots, green beans, and (most importantly) cranberry sauce. MMMMM how they loved the cranberry sauce.

Muffin Tin Monday: Trees and Leaves

This week we had a muffin tin for snack. We have been talking a lot about the trees and how the leaves are changing color. I knew I wanted to make a bunch of leaves using all the colors. I went searching the fridge and pantry for red, orange, yellow, and green food to turn into leaves.

Top Row: cheese, pretzel sticks with hummus, apple

Bottom Row: pickles, dried pineapple, pear

I was going to just add some pretzel sticks in to represent a tree but as I was putting it together it started to look like a real tree.

It was simple to do but they loved it. I think they ate more for snack than they did for lunch or dinner.

Trick or Treat

Trick or Treat!

Mackenzie went as a fairy and Logan was Elmo. Logan just didn't like the hood but Mackenzie didn't like it when she was Elmo last year.

We had fun dancing around in our costumes before heading out. Mackenzie was a pro, even if she did need reminding to say, "Thank you." Logan was not shy about reaching in to grab some candy. After we sat down to eat our loot. It is fun to see how they are getting more and more into holiday activities. Here are some close ups of some of my favorite pictures(Mackenzie is turning into such a ham).

Corny Fun

We went to a corn maze last week but there was oh so much more! One area right in the front was a princess area with a bounce house, castle to climb in and slide out, and a stage coach! There was also a wooden train, farmer's market shop, spider web to crawl on, and duck races.
One of the favorite activities was the corn pit!

There was even a huge monster. We ventured up to the mouth and Daddy and Logan marched right in. Mackenzie and I were more apprehensive. I picked her up walked in and peeked around the first corner into the pitch blackness, there was a noise and I turned around and practically ran out (I am a scardey cat). Robert and Logan made it all the way through, it was just darkness and some noises.
Another favorite was the giant jumping pillows. I got on with the kids and was glad that it wasn't very crowded.



We rode a tractor and got to ride in the cow train.

We had rented a wagon to pull the kids along (I loved it!!) By the end Logan wanted to help push, Mackenzie just rode along like a princess.


All that fun and we didn't even make it into the corn maze!

Pumpkin Patch

This weekend we headed out to the pumpkin patch. First we looked at the tractor collection, and even sat on a few.


Then we ran through a corn maze.

Finally, the main event...pumpkins! There were kid sized wheelbarrows and the patch was really already picked pumpkins, which made it a lot easier for us. Mackenzie headed in search of a square pumpkin (we have been reading about Spookely the Square pumpkin).
She didn't find a square one ...
but found one that was just right for her.
Logan headed out too...
"hmmm, which one do I want?"
"Hey I found one"
"I got it"
Big sister to the rescue!
I did get a cute picture of the two of them. Notice how Logan looks like he is ready to run away and Mackenzie is holding on to him.
Since there wasn't a square pumpkin I got two mini pumpkins for the kids to paint and Mackenzie painted a rainbow pumpkin (also from Spookely).

Carving was quite fun too! We planned out what kind of faces our pumpkins would have. Mackenzie wanted a happy one while Logan opted for a scarier face.

Getting all of the guts out was fun.

Daddy even joined in on the fun.
